35K: Robbie and Mary and David and Chris, 1954

Rupert (Robbie) and Mary, my mom's parents, hold David & Chris (1954).

Grandpa liked to smoke cigars.  I liked how their basement always had that old cigar smell.

They met in Manhattan when Rupert was delivering stuff to where Mary worked. On September 29, 1928, Rupert and Mary got married.

13K: Grandma Olson and Dad in a rowboat

Grandma Olson and my dad.

All I remember is she caught me lighting the gas stove,
and scolded me but good.

15K: Grandpa smiles, hugged by Chuck & Chris

Grampa Olson was always in a good mood.

That's me and my sister Chris hugging him.

Grandma & Grampa Olson got married around 1921.

That's my Mom & Dad!

Hi, Mom!  Hi, Dad!
Thank you so much for giving me life, and all the love and care throughout the years.
I love you both dearly.

I don't know how Dad got that halo.
I'm sure it has nothing to do with me.

11K: David smiles

I love this photo.  I feel a great gentle sense of confidence and strength.

That's my older brother, David. He was a senior at St. Andrew's School (a boarding high school in Middletown, Delaware) when I got there as a teeny-tiny eighth grader (under 5 feet, and less than 90 pounds).  David was gigantic, and a terrific athlete (football, wrestling, crew), and I felt very safe with him around.  He went undefeated as a heavyweight wrestler his senior year (including in all tournaments - he won the Prep School Nationals!).  His nickname was Bobo, after the great wrestler Bobo Olson of the 1920's.  When the students saw little me, I got the nickname Obob (inverse of Bobo).

Now David is married (to Sandy), with two children, Erika and Julie.  And he's a doctor -- you can trust him.

9K Chris smiles

This is my older sister, Chris. She is a dentist (look at those teeth).  And she's also married (to Alan), and has two children, Jennine and Danny.

Hmmm... Where'd I come from?

6K Virginia smiles

This is my younger sister, Virginia.  She's married now too (to Mark), and also has two children (David & Lisa).  She is trained as an engineer, and does something or other for the Air Force.

8K: Eric Smiles

This is Eric, my little brother.  Actually, he's very big, even bigger than my older brother [they call me Shorty, and I'm 6'3"].  Eric is married now (to Colleen), and also has two children (Victoria & Lara).  He sells electrical power, which involves going to a lot of sporting events, and golfing, and generally just paling around with some guys.  If you meet him, you'll see why he's so good at it.

17K: Olson Family 1965

Here we are again in 1965.
